Divine Italian Cuisine in Newport Beach - Canaletto Ristorante Veneto

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

I checked out a fairly new restaurant located at Fashion Island in Newport Beach this past weekend, Canaletto Ristorante Veneto. I found out that the restaurant is owned by El Fernio and is one of two Canaletto’s in the country. The first one is located at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. Anyway, enough of the background, let’s get right to the review.

Most items on the menu looked absolutely divine. I love Italian cuisine so it is so hard to choose one item and not have buyer’s remorse. I chose a pretty heavy dish for me, Casonzei con Strocchino e Pere which is homemade ravioli filled with baked pear, chicken, parmiginano reggiano sauce. The entrée was delish and no buyer’s remorse!

One of the reasons I really like the restaurant is the fact that that for those of us who do not eat huge orders, most entrees come with half order options. This made pretty much everything on the menu extremely affordable and lord knows we need a break these days.

Another cool discovery was Prosecco which is Italian Champagne. It is fabulous and a great value and was actually cheaper than most wines on the menu! Who knew that the Italians could make such great bubbly?
