What we have been waiting for - Nordstrom Fashion Island!

Friday, April 9th, 2010

In exactly 1 week from today Nordstrom at Fashion Island will finally be open!! I have been counting down the days since they broke ground and started construction. Get ready to get gorgeous and pamper yourselves to a well deserved shopping day full of events.

If you stop by before the store’s opening at 10am, you will get the inside scoop on new products and trends from the top names in beauty, and learn the latest tips and tricks from the Nordstrom team of beauty experts. Then from 10 am- 4pm, Jerell Scott, one of the most likable designers on the show Project Runway- Season 3 will be there to answer questions about the inspiration behind his latest accessories line, True Birds.

Now if you are a self proclaimed “Nordie’s” shopper, like me, I suggest you wake up early and head down to Fashion Island to experience this amazing grand opening. And I have a gut feeling they are going to have a couple more surprises throughout the day!  I am pretty sure you will not want to miss out on this fashion filled day!

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

I just came back from a wonderful window shopping tour of Fashion Island.  I was both delighted and excited when I heard the news about the new Fluxus boutique opening at Fashion Island this Spring! If you’re as big of a Project Runway fan as I am you will be happy to know that the head designer is LA native and Project Runway Season 3 winner Jeffrey Sebelia. Fluxus is a casual brand known for its high quality t-shirts and soft knit pieces, as well as avant-garde pieces for men, women and kids. My favorite part is their unique use combinations of fabrics and washes that make their clothes comfortable to wear every occasion all season long.

Fluxus is worn by all the Hollywood trend setters including: Jessica Alba, Nicole Richie, Rachel Bilson and Eva Longoria.  It is chic, easy, daring, and affordable. And these days isn’t that one of the most crucial aspects when were out shopping for closet essentials or the perfect outfit to make a statement on our night out on the town?

Fluxus is causing a positive uproar in the fashion world with their down to earth philosophy and their super comfy, yet very stylish clothing. It is not just another brand, but a unique extension of the individual- blending and connecting all aspects of art and life. It is no wonder they have such a loyal celebrity following! But doesn’t this sound too good to be true, being able to afford to wear the same brand as celebrities? I promise it is, check it out for yourself if you don’t believe me! It will be located in a 1,329-square-foot space next to Nordstrom. Look for more details regarding the opening at Fashion Island this Spring.

Get On Que for the Academy Awards

Monday, February 8th, 2010

If you are one of the fortunate souls invited to attend the Academy Awards this year or perhaps attending an Academy Awards Party, but think you can’t afford to look like you are about to walk down the red carpet…think again! On Que in Newport Beach can style you in all the latest designer brands at a fraction of the cost. How you ask…..the clothes, bags, jewelry and shoes are either slightly worn or samples. The fashionistas have been keeping these kinds of shops a big secret for a long time and recession has made them more popular than ever. I stroll in from time to time and find the shop absolutely amazing. The Merchandise ranges from Robert Cavalli, Manolos, Chanel, YSL, to Tiffany & Co. jewelry…it is all there. I am told that even OC Housewife Alexis Bellino shops there! There you have it. On Que Style is located at 2900 E. Coast Hwy. in Corona del Mar. Their website is www.onquestyle.com. Check it out!

Holiday Blues for a Fashionista

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

For a “fashionista” you would think that one would not have the holiday blues considering the amount of nonstop shopping required during the season.  Well, between work and all the personal errands on my list, limited budgets and no time for myself, I just could not get into the spirit this year until this past weekend.

Since my procrastination forced me to limited time, I chose Fashion Island so I could buy everything in one place. Boy, did I improve my mood…

For one, since most of Fashion Island is outside, I could breathe fresh air with views of the Pacific Ocean instead of feeling the typical claustrophobia in a typical mall. Second, dogs are welcomed so even in my “bah humbug” spirit, they managed to put a smile on my face at every turn. (Of course, I am an avid dog lover!) They were even having their pictures made with Santa. Oh so cute!

Now for the icing on the cake - the deals. At almost every store, were deals ranging anywhere from 20% – 70% off. I was able to purchase wonderful gifts this year on my limited budget which really brightened my mood. In addition, with the money I saved, was able to buy a few things for myself! On a final note, I felt so good, I bought a toy and donated a Toys for Tots. How is that for total mood improvement?

I think atmosphere improved my spirits more than anything. Fresh air, dogs and giving back…That is what a Southern California Christmas is supposed to be all about! Fashion Island is located at 401 Newport Center Drive off Pacific Coast Hwy. in Newport Beach, California.

No Money for New Designer Clothes

Friday, December 18th, 2009

During the start of the recession last Spring I got terribly depressed when watching the spring fashion shows, frequenting the shopping malls and my favorite shops and even going to the trendy OC nightclubs and restaurants knowing that there was no way I was going to be able to keep up with the “Jones” next door with my new limited budget. I sulked for months…I did not want to sacrifice quality – something ingrained in my Southern up-brining - and yet knew I was too old to shop in the really inexpensive teen “Forever 21 type” stores- no I am not sharing my age…just trust me on this one….

This summer I found a solution that has put a smile back on my face and made me feel like a million dollars! Recycled Designer Clothes Shops. OK, many of my friends would completely frown at the thought of wearing someone’s used clothes – but get this – many of the clothes in these shops haven’t been worn at all…In fact, I was able to pick up a brand new Armani suit that was sized wrong at the tailor, with the tags still in tact, for a fraction of the original cost. Their mistake was my perfect size! These stores also carry designer hand bags, amazing jewelry, shoes, and other great accessories.

Now for the snob side of this unusual shopping business….the recycled shopping spree totally depends on WHERE the store is located. After doing a bit of research on this tricky business, it appears that obviously, the more upscale the area or if the area is located in the heart of a designer/style location the better. For instance, in New York, Soho, an area where quite a bit of fashion models live, there are some of the best recycle shops in the country, etc. Fashion models tend to sell their clothes they often are given after a photo shoot. Wealthy women often sell or donate their evening gowns after a single appearance!

We luck out in Newport Beach and just happen to have two fantastic shops located on Pacific Coast Highway in the Corona del Mar neighborhood. The shops are amazing and have something for every body type and taste. For instance On Que Style, located at 2900 E. Coast Hwy., is the newest recycle shop in town and carries a more hip line of clothes line such as Roberto Cavalli and Pucci. Their lines cater to a younger audience. Recycled Rags, located at 2731 E. Coast Hwy., carries designer clothes for both men and women and has a broader selection for the men.  Recycled rags carries the more traditional lines such as Chanel. I actually love and frequent both stores and since they are literally across the street from each other would never visit one without the other.

New Beach Bunny Swimwear Flagship Store opens in Newport Beach

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Just in time for summer, “Girls Next Door” TV reality star and Hugh Hefner’s former girlfriend, Bridgette Marquardt opens up her first ever flagship store for Beach Bunny Swimwear in Newport Beach.

In Bridgette’s trademark playful fashion, the swimwear line features costumey themes and cheeky names like “Light My Fire,” “Kiss and Tell” and “Bunnylicious.” I personally love the bright colors and intricate details using lace, studs, ribbon and glitter.
You’re sure to find the perfect stand-out swimsuit for the upcoming 4th of July weekend and all summer long.

Strappy Sandals are the new Trend

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

OK, I normally don’t blog about fashion, but my attendance at the Newport Beach Film Festival Opening Night sparred my interest…SHOES….The new style of black strappy sandals was the rage..The cool thing is sometimes I adore shoes on the rack, but when on the feet, look awkward. The heavy strapped sandals looked good on everyone and with all types of outfits from dress jeans to shorts to skirts. These are a “must purchase” for summer and in fact, I am headed to Fashion Island tonight in search of the perfect pair!

Why not check out Y-3?

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

There’s a new store at Fashion Island that I’ve just fallen in love with!  Y-3 is a collaboration between famous Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas, which opened just a week and a half ago. Y-3 carries sporty yet sleek styles for men and women (including shoes, accessories, bathing suits) that you can wear out, look good, and feel comfortable without looking like you just got out of the gym! The line features a basic palette of mostly black, white and grey, yet its attention to details and edgy silhouettes is what sets it apart from your average black tee.

I’m obsessed with this striped duffel bag which would make a great weekender bag or even something I could take to the beach!

Y-3 at Fashion Island Newport Beach is the first store in California that carries its entire line for men, women and accessories.  Other locations include New York and Miami.

Y-3 is located at Fashion Island next to the Terrace food court.  www.shopfashionisland.com
